Paralegals in Today’s World

Paralegals can offer a number of benefits to their firm.  Their role is ever-changing.  The efforts by paralegals are far-reaching within their own offices and communities.

The demand for paralegals is on the rise.  A paralegal career gives countless opportunities to make a difference in the lives of many people.  The role of the paralegal in the legal field often directly impacts the clients and the community, and even the direction of the law firm.

Most people think of Erin Brokovich and her efforts in spearheading the case regarding contaminated water and the whistleblowing of a major company and their deceptive practices.  Not all paralegal work is glamorous like that.  The work usually contains a lot of leg-work and research including day to day activities of client intake, filing, phone calls and research is the more common theme in the paralegal profession.

The National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), expressed a commitment to the involvement of paralegals , as “paralegals can benefit the community, the private bar, the judiciary, and the paralegal profession by volunteering their times, abilities, and skills as trained professionals.”

Within the firm, paralegals make legal services more affordable for individuals by handling more work that allows the attorney fee to be mitigated.  An experienced legal support professional knowledge of law and ability to support the firm is being recognized even more widely by law firms.

From the first time a client calls to the closing of a house, reduction in a traffic ticket or signing of a Will, a paralegal sometimes is the point of contact for the client.  We are there to answer any questions we can, without giving legal advice (left for the attorney) and facilitate the end result in what the client is seeking legal assistance for.

In my experience, the relationship that develops between the client and the paralegal can prove important.  The relationship can communicate information between attorney’s offices, continue the file moving, facilitate filings and help bring the files towards a mutually agreeable closure.  Here at Trainor Law, we strive to have our clients satisfied and feel that their questions have been answered and that the end result of their case is what they have hoped for.  We pride ourselves on developing relationships with each potential client that calls or walks through our door.

If you need assistance on a legal matter, please do not hesitate to contact our firm.  We look forward to hearing from you.
